Review of The Consequence of Revenge by Rachel Van Dyken

After losing his best friend to another guy, the notoriously too-confident Max Emory suddenly feels lost. He may have devastatingly good looks, an abundance of charm, and a claim to one of the biggest hotel empires around, but he has no ambition anymore. So when his fed-up friends decide they’ve had enough of his moping, they sign him up to be the next bachelor on the reality series Love Island. And between his pride and his forged signature on an ironclad contract, Max just can’t say no.

Now he’s stranded in paradise with twenty-four women, one terrifying goat, and Becca, the breathtaking barista who already turned him down back home. The closer Max gets to Becca, the more determined he becomes to win her over. As she gets to know him better, things start heating up. But is Becca really after Max’s heart—or is she after the cash prize she could claim once the cameras stop rolling?

Review:
I ADORE Rachel Van Dyken and her books. My favorite ones are actually her Romantic Comedies! I read The Consequence of Loving Colton, the first book in the series and WOW! I laughed so hard! It was by far one of my favorites this year.
So, when I got The Consequence of Revenge, I was thrilled. The premise sounded awesome and I was curious about what would happen to Max. After reading the first few pages, I actually put the book away for a bit.
Max, was not exactly my favorite point of view. His character is meant to be ridiculous, but this was past that. I was so disappointed, that it took me several weeks before I decided to give it another go.
I did not like Max. The only redeeming factor, was Becca and the characters from the previous book. They made the story better. I loved Becca, heck, I even loved that darn goat, Hades.
Max used the phrase, 'feel me?' at the end of practically every bit of dialogue. Plus, he was talking to the audience the whole time, instead of it being inner dialogue. His running commentary grated on me.
Even the comedy in this installment was off. I laughed at a few scenes, but nothing like the first book. That was disappointing.
Overall, this book was just okay, not up to par with Rachel's other books. I did love the first book, and I'm curious to see what happens to Reid and Jason, so I will be reading the third books in hopes it redeems this storyline.
I hate to give this author anything less than the five stars I'm accustomed to giving her, but this was a three glittery star read for me. It was good, but not her best.

Book 1:
My name is Milo Caro and I have a confession to make.

I’ve been in love with Colton Mathews since I was five. He should have known that sharing a cookie with a sugar obsessed little monster would do the trick–it sealed his fate. So really, the fact that he’s sporting a black eye, a limp, almost got ran over by a car, and was nearly responsible for another person’s death? Right. HIs fault. Not mine.

I made a pact with myself–this weekend would be different. I’d come home for my brothers wedding, smile, and Colton would naturally melt into my arms, we’d get married have five kids, live in a house by the river, and get a dog named scratch (clearly I’ve thought this through).

What really happened? I punched my brother in the face, Colton kissed me and apologized, I lied about having a boyfriend, oh and everyone wants to meet the mystery man.

They say laughter always comes before insanity–ha, ha. All I wanted was my brother’s best friend…instead I’m sitting in prison.

Let this be a lesson to you all…life rarely happens the way you want it to.

Damn cookie.

Review:
Gah! I don't even know where to begin. I adored this book! It was one of the best reads of 2015!

To begin with, I have to admit I love Rachel Van Dyken's books. She always has such quirky characters. This story took the cake. It was so laugh out loud funny, tears were forming. Now, I will say this is officially my favorite book by this author.

I love the romance between Milo and Colton. They were really cute and the story progressed nicely. Her best friend, his brother, Milo, her brother Jason, his best friend Colton, crazy Jayne, spry old grandma, and an old rival bring this story to life.

This author is so creative, I couldn't believe the hilarious things she came up with. This was a well crafted romantic comedy. I HIGHLY recommend reading this one.

The sequel comes out in June and revolves around Milo's best friend, Max. I'm already dying to get my hands on a copy of it!

This book deserves far more than five glittery stars. It's a book to be remembered. Therefore, I'm dishing out ten glittery stars for an epic book that was just what I needed!
